Do you know these constitutional provisions about a clean and healthy environment?  

The Constitution of the Republic of Uganda addresses social welfare and development extensively in the National Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy (inserted before the main Articles of the Constitution) and throughout Chapter Four on Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms.

 

Key objectives include fair representation for marginalized groups (Objective VI) and provisions for the welfare of the aged (Objective VII). The right to development (Objective IX) ensures equal opportunities for citizens, while Objective XI details the State's role in stimulating development and regulating property for social justice. Objective XIV focuses on fulfilling rights to social justice and economic development, including access to essential services like education and health. Objective XVI recognizes the dignity of persons with disabilities, and Objective XVIII promotes free basic education and equal opportunity for quality education. The Constitution also emphasizes protection of the family (Objective XIX) and the promotion of food security and nutrition (Objective XXII)

 

Article 21 guarantees equality and freedom from discrimination.

Article 32 mandates affirmative action for marginalized groups.

Article 33 ensures women's equal dignity and State support for their welfare.

Article 34 protects children's rights to education and freedom from exploitation.

Article 35 affirms the rights of persons with disabilities to respect and dignity.

Article 39 ensures the right to a clean and healthy environment.

Article 40 requires satisfactory working conditions, equal pay, reasonable hours, and paid rest
